Mica Textile Design
For my senior thesis project, I chose to create and brand my own textile design company, Mica Textile Design. I then designed a series of prints which would be produced by Mica. Each print is comprised of a single letter in a single typeface. The letters were manipulated in Adobe Illustrator to create unique, bold and captivating designs. The digitally designed prints were printed on to a cotton sateen fabric using specially modified digital printers. To better integrate the fabrics throughout my project I designed and sewed a dress, belt and handbag to demonstrate how the fabrics appear in mocked-up form. A swatch book was created to display the full fabric line, along with hang tags and business cards which featured die-cuts and inlaid fabric swatches. The overall goal of this project was to demonstrate the importace of effective branding as well as to show that printing on alternative surfaces can elevate graphic design to new heights.
